Latest news from the heritage
Many of you will not have listened to the poem of the loss of the Evangeline, a zulu boat which was out of Portknockie, the crew were all from the village with the young cook from Cullen. The crew perished on the night of the 16/17th January 1905 when she was caught out at sea in a severe storm. When we did the Fishing 1909 dvd we put in the poem written by a Stronsay Minister at the time. It is a beautiful poem and one of our lovely ladies in the Buckie Blethers, Isobel Geddes, was asked to read the poem for us so we could add it to the DVD - that and the fantastic musical background by Ronnie Thain gives the haunting poem the backing it deserves. You must see it on the first page and please listen to it.
John Addison has recently launched another book - BCK Motor Boats Volume 1 which is on sale in the usual outlets and on the website, cost is £15. The Book has 260 pages and is rich in photographs having more than 500 photographs. He is currently finishing the second volume which will be published in the late spring of 2012. It is a must have book for those interested in the fishing boats of a more modern area. Postage costs in the UK are going up and up and if any member who currently gets our free Newsleter by post - we would ask you to try and assist the finances of the Centre and get your Newsletter by email - all you have to do is send your email address to info@buckieheritage.org and it will be added to the growing list of those who are taking it by email.
Our members who use the Forum on the old web site will see that it has been discontinued and all queries will be directed via our Facebook entry. We shall still offer the same service as much as possible. Our forum was being attacked on a daily basis by scammers attempting to join to use the forum for their own ends. Hence the reason for closing it down. |
