September 2008
Currently working on a data base of
fishing boats from as far back as we can get. It will take
some time but should prove a useful resource once completed.
Third Party requests for information
As most of you will know, the Buckie &
District Fishing Heritage Centre is a registered charity in
Scotland, in other words we have no means of raising finance apart
from our own efforts. When we are seeking funding from various
sources we are asked various questions to prove that we are
providing a service (usually for free) to other people.
Forum - joining instructions
We
have a forum on the web site where people can ask questions which
will be answered if we have the answer in our resources to do so.
It is easy to join - just go to
www.buckieheritage.org and
then go to forum - you will be asked to register which is also easy,
give yourself a user name and then a password and provide your email
address, your details will
be sent immediately to the website - you will then receive an
activation email from the website confirming your registration and
from then you can post messages on
the forum and private messages to others who have joined the forum.
We would ask that you do not ask
questions on behalf of 'others' and ask the 'others' to join and ask
the questions themselves - that way we shall be able to measure how
many people are asking questions and where geographically they are
asking the questions from! That would help us enormously and
we ask for your cooperation in assisting us with this request.
We wish
them a speedy recovery
Jeannie B Cowie Has now been moved to Seafield and
her recovery continues. She has settled in fine and a steady
stream of visitors have kept her up to date with the happenings.
Or is that the other way round?
Peter Flett - Made a surprise
and very welcome brief visit to the Heritage Centre on Friday
afternoon, looking a bit more like his old self, he was under strict
instructions from his lady wife Isbel not to get involved and start
' newsing'. He is due to get his operation at the end of
October - we wish him well.
Johnny Hughes A - His wife Margaret remains in Seafield
hospital - Her recuperation will take some time.
Volunteers . We
are continually seeking volunteers to man the centre during the
season. We only ask that you do one stint per week of three
hours. You can largely select which day of the week you wish
to attend and we shall try to do this where possible. It is a
very worthwhile three hours, you meet all sorts of folk who visit the
place from all over the world. Most importantly you are
providing support for the Heritage of the past to be preserved for
the future. If you pop in to the centre at any time and speak
to the staff on duty they will give you a rundown on the place.
Ex fishermen and ladies are particularly welcome.
